★ About Xi’an

Xi’an-- The Permanent Conference Site of the Euro-Asia Economic Forum
Xi’an is the capital of Shaanxi province, located in the northwest of China. It is recognized as one of the most important cities in China, both historically and today. As one of the oldest cities in Chinese history, Xi’an is one of the four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It is also the eastern end of the Silk Road, the first Chinese city to open up its doors to the world.

The Euro-Asia Economic Forum, approved by the State Council, is sponsored by the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the United Nation Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the China Development Bank. It is co-sponsored by the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) and the United Nations Development Programme, and organized by the Xi'an Municipal People's Government. It is a high-level international economic forum held once every two years, the site of which is permanently set in Xi’an. Since the first annual meeting was held in 2005, the Euro-Asia Economic Forum has been successfully held five times. It has attracted the attention of not only European and Asian countries but of the world as a whole. It has also become an important platform for European and Asian countries to deepen mutual understanding and expand communication and cooperation, as well as a platform for promoting the mutual prosperity of Eurasia. In November 2009, the third Euro-Asia Economic Forum, with the theme of “working together to facilitate economic recovery”, was held in Xi’an. Xi Jinping, Vice-President and Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. In February 2010, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Euro-Asia Economic Forum is a good channel and platform for China’s interior provinces to establish a cooperative relationship with neighboring countries which have the government’s protection and support.
